Simon Whelan – Data Science Team Manager | Swedbank

Simon has over 20 years experience working with computational modelling and data, applied to several industries as well as in academic research. At Swedbank he works as a Data Science Team Manager contributing to improving how AI and advanced analytics are used to fight financial crime and augment business processes. Previous experience at Swedbank includes working as a Senior Data Scientist in optimisation and enablement, which aims to take advantage of Swedbank’s transition to the cloud and applies a pragmatic approach to applying data science and machine learning to areas within the bank outside more traditional analytics. Simon has also worked in Sandvik’s Centre of Digital Excelence and held senior academic positions at Uppsala University and The University of Manchester in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
